It represents anti-winterism. The defiance of the seasons. Exercising a perceived "right" to swim whenever one wants. Despite the pathetic futility of it. While Nature just gives in to as much as what one lonely swimmer exerts on the atmosphere of the scene anyway - mocking ripples going only so far.
